
CMYK dots
Abbreviation for the four inks—cyan, magenta, yellow, and black—used for full-colour book printing. The black colour is called K because historically black was printed as the “key” a method of aligning the other colours.
The combination of these four colours can create every shade and tone in the colour spectrum. The colours are not mixed but are printed side-by-side to show as a different colour to the human eye. For example a C (blue) dot next to a Y (yellow) dot will be seen as green (a combination of blue and yellow).
