Rich black is a technique to render pages in a darker more saturated manner. It is done by introducing other elements of the CMYK spectrum not just K (black). For example C60 M40 Y40 K 100.

It isn’t appropriate to use rich black on text or fine lines because of errors in registration. It is best used on large black graphic elements.
